Welcome to the Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) website. As you peruse the following pages youíll learn about our agency, the types of housing units we manage, the HOPE VI programs we have underway, and the resident services and programs we provide.

First and foremost, we are here to assist our residents. This is a task we take very seriously! We strive to not only provide quality, affordable housing, but perhaps more importantly help our residents achieve financial independence. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to read about our Special Programs that have been designed to help residents reach their goals.

The LMHA also endeavors to take a proactive approach to enhancing and strengthening neighborhoods. In 1996, we began changing the face of public housing when we demolished two of our largest and most troubled housing developments in West Louisville. In its place we created a mixed-income community, The Villages of Park DuValle, comprised of over 1,000 rental units and single family homes. This effort, formerly known as the Park DuValle Revitalization, has been recognized both nationally and internationally as one of the most successful HOPE VI initiatives in the country. In 2003, LMHA successfully applied for and was awarded another HOPE VI grant for the Clarksdale public housing development that lies just east of downtown. We once again established public/private partnerships, and worked with the Clarksdale Neighborhood Advisory Council, Smoketown and Shelby Park Resident Councils, area businesses and civic and community organizations. The Clarksdale HOPE VI is now known as a new mixed-income community entitled Liberty Green.

While we are proud of the accomplishments we have achieved to date, we are committed to seeking out innovative housing opportunities and special programs that will serve to positively impact the lives of our residents. And, with the support of the LMHA Board of Commissioners and our 300+ dedicated employees, as well as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, we are confident that we can continue to improve the housing and programs we offer to our residents.
